Welcome to Season 5! We have some exciting news: Not only have we found the lost season 2 shows (clips of which we will be sharing) , but we’ll also have the shows uploaded within 30-60 minutes of recording! On top of that we’ll be revamping this website and we’ve created a youtube channel to show off some of our funnier moments. We’ll have some great clips up there within a month so stay tuned and keep listening!

This show was a spontaneous one, sparked by the fact that Jason, Doody, and I were all together in one place. We got a hold of B and sat around the old mixing board just like old times. Enjoy!

After that we have another great tune from opsound.org, its Insist with Hey You. Insist is an Osaka, Japan band with an “band-style hip-hop” sound. Turns out its very catchy and well made to boot! Enjoy folks.

Yay! We’re still funny! We’ve lined up a couple of really choice cuts for you this show. Starting things off strong, Southcott, the New York Emo/Rock band, returns to TMWS with their song “Vengance Isn’t the Right Word.” Southcott is still independent and going strong. I really love these guy’s CD “Flee the Scene” and I encourage you to pick it up at smartpunk.com.

After that we have a fun southern rock piece that has a place in my heart because it reminds me of Firefly. “I’m Doing Fine” by artist Lorenzo’s Music is a westerny song that will stick in your head for days with its catchy melody and gravely vocals. You can find more about Lorenzo’s Music, and buy their CDs or t-shirts at www.lorenzosmusic.com.

Also on this weeks show: An “internet terror” case judge doesn’t know what a website is!? Canada’s history takes to gaming, and the $189 laptop. 404 isn’t as funny a show as we’d like, we got too weighed down with some really depressing but serious topics, however we cover some things that are really important and raise some serious questions, so I do hope you tune in. And don’t worry, the humor shall return with next weeks show ;)

Three great songs grace the show this week. We’ll hear Semideus by Orxata Soundsystem, Paza’s Baspatterns, and the eclectic cHiEfRoCkA 4 ReaL song Keep It Hardcore.

Prepare your mind, cross your fingers, and hit play!

The general consensus is the shows keep getting better, so if this is your first foray into TMWS-land, you’re just in time.

The first musical break is actually from a youtube video by Lasse Gjertsen called “Amateur“. Its another compilation piece like Hyperactive, and its got a really catchy beat. The second selection is by indie artist Josh Petty, and it’s another fun one called “Keep it steady Josh Petty”. Show notes follow the podcast links. Check the eye candy folks! We’ve got a new theme on the blog, cause the old one was too “corporate” and we’re not about to become *The Man*. To Hell with that!

Remember kids, TMWS is older than Podcasting. We’ve been around, took a break, and now we’re back and better than ever, updated to a podcast but still the same old TMWS cast, and if you can still just download the ol’ mp3 and play it in winamp or XMMP. Bands

  • Bands featured on this episode are:

And The Hero Fails Amora Savant

I can’ find a bio on these guys but I really like their music. The members are: John Grant - Guitar, Jamie Kerwin - Guitar, Andy Parmann - Vocals, Ryan Blundon - Bass. Check them out on purevolume or myspace

And The Hero Fails And The Hero Fails

And The Hero Fails came together out of bits and pieces of other bands in May 2004. Dustin, Eli, Justin and Ian were taking time out of their current bands to jam with Robert as a side-project. The side-project turned into their full-time focus as their other bands were left as memories. With the addition of Matt soon after, ATHF took its full form and was set on a B-line to success.
ATHF’s music is pure passion mixed with technical and quality musicianship. Matt explains, “I am a sucker for timing changes, catchy riffs, beefy breakdowns and the sing/scream combination.” Their music can be compared to Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage and Unearth. Find out more at their website.

Believe it buddy, Show #3. Johnny B. aka “Death Rawk Boy” joins us this week along with the guys you already know: B, Doody, and Tom aka “Chink”. People of the Jewish faith come up a bit in this episode, but not in a bad way, we treat all religions equally, but they do come up in a totally neutral way… Just wanted to make that clear. Heck, I once gave a total stranger who was a hasidic jew that didn’t speak any english a ride across town in Spring Valley. That was an experience. Fun fact: “hasidic” is hebrew for “loving kindness”. Anyway:

Bands

  • Bands featured on this episode are:

Stealing December Stealing December
Formed in March of 2005, Stealing December rose from the ashes of three of its members’ past musical efforts. Longtime band mates Ryan Mullen (guitar) and brothers Michaelangelo (drums) and Joe Ristano (bass) have combined with Midwest prodigy Brandon Langer on lead vocals and guitar to bring forth a fresh, driving rock n’ roll sound with hints of punk and pop. I love listening to these guys when I need to get my fix of really good pop punk.

Death Rawk Boy Death Rawk Boy
Death Rawk Boy is our very own Johnny B, a very talented musician from the northern wastes that will blow your perception of that thing we call music. Download his latest album, Songs for the Uneducated Mind, at his website here.

Test Icicles Test Icicles
Not only does this band have a *great* name, they put out some great music to kick ass to as well. Also, they have that British punk sound I love.

Gregory and the HawkGregory and the Hawk
I honesly don’t know much about this band. Their songs are both soothing and haunting, and remind me of a melancholy Architecture In Helsinki

One Way Letter One Way Letter
We brought these guys back from episode 1. I love em! Plus Jalb digs on their lead singer. As I said earlier, their debut album Where Everybody Knows Your Name is out now.

Did you miss us? It’s been three years since our last show, but we’re finally back and better than ever. You are about to embark on The Maniacs Weekly Show’s episode 1 of the 3rd season. For those of you who are new to the show, fear not, you havn’t missed anything major, for we are starting out anew. This was technically a test broadcast, which is clearly evident in the horrific (and I mean TERRIBLE) sound quality due to Tom’s crappy mic (which has since been replaced) and echo from B having to use speakers lieu of headphones. Most of the show Tom is hard to hear, and what you can hear is echo-y. Also, it is MUCH more political and not-quite-as-funny as our older listeners expect. This is because we wanted to get most of that Katrina/9-11/oil prices blah blah blah stuff out of the way before we did our first true show. However if you really love us, at least browse through this little piece of wabi-sabi.

Don’t get me wrong, this show has great humor and music, it’s just very rough around the edges. Don’t expect our shows from now on to be such poor sound quality.
Anyway, enough show bashing. Take a god damned listen!

Bands

  • Bands featured on this episode are:

Southcott SouthcottSouthcott is an indie rock band from Rockland County, NY. They deliver some great catchy music without any whining. This shit makes you want to jump around and slam dance with the bookshelf. Their album Flee the Scene just came out February 7th, so go get it.

The Drama SummerThe Drama Summer Out of Findlay, OH, The Drama summer is a pop-punk/emo band that doesn’t sound like everybody else. I consider that a great compliment. Look for good things coming from these guys. They also have a new EP titled Make A Move coming out March 11th.

One Way Letter One Way LetterI can’t say enough about this quartette. Their sound is unique, they have a mix of beautiful, powerful, hard songs, every one of them great. Their lead vocalist is female, which is rare among emo/rock bands. Howerver, this ain’t no Rilo, this band rocks hard and know’s what they’re doing. Their debut album Where Everybody Knows Your Name is out now, and you have to get it. NOW!
