    WordPress 1.5 (finally!)

“Oh big surprise Tom! You havn’t updated for ever or posted new photos.”

But… But… this time is different! Honest! You see, I just got a new job working technical support at UNET, the University of Maine System’s network that supports almost every school and library in Maine! It’s a great job and I get to play with routers in my shell acct. and help solve problems across the network. Today I took a 58 minute call, which was crazy, because it was only my second day on the phones. But non-disclosure and such, I’ll leave it at the fact that it’s a great job.

I like it. I think you should ‘drive truck,’ like I hear so much about.

    • Nyrath the nearly wise 11:04 am on 8/5/2005 Permalink

I understand about your reluctance to own a credit card, since I had the same problem. However, it is useful to have one JUST FOR THE INTERNET for things like PayPal. This is because it is insanely dangerous to use a debit card on the internet. With a credit card you are only liable for $50, with a debit card a thief could clean out your bank account. Which would be really annoying.

So get a credit card, lock it in a safety deposit box, and only use it on the net. I know how those evil plastic cards can burn a hole in your pocket, but you just have to resist!

And when I start wavering, I am secure in the knowlege that your aunt will spear me with her steely eyes and bring me back to my senses.

    • Nyrath the nearly wise 7:09 pm on 8/5/2005 Permalink

Heh, ah, your adorable aunt says that she has never “speared me with her steely eyes”. In truth, she just questions how fiscally responsible the decision is and leaves it at that.

    • euicho 9:59 pm on 8/7/2005 Permalink

Very good points about the card, I may just do that.

Oh, they never *think* they spear you, but you can smell your shirt smoldering under their gaze! And it is amazing how a woman can induce guilt with the most innocent sounding of words.

    • Nyrath the nearly wise 10:11 am on 8/8/2005 Permalink

I think it is possible to get a credit card with a small credit limit, like $500, just for Internet purchases.

Roger, that; your comments on women. You do realize, of course, that my second posting was due to your adorable aunt reading my first post, and taking exception to her portrayal therein.

    • euicho 11:50 pm on 8/10/2005 Permalink

LOL, yes, I figured that. Women have a way of being so cute that we must obey their every whim.

    To NYC with haste!

Guten Morgen Herr Miller *shouts to Jalb*. I just wanted to say a quick hello from down here in New York. Amme and I drove down with her mother to go to her cousin Jesse’s wedding. Almost all of the family is down here–which, believe me, is a lot, and we’ve just been hanging out and shopping at the Palisades Mall, getting fattened up in Chinatown, and eating White Castle *shouts to Evan*.

    Evan’s Rant #3 : Pizza Hut Revelation

    The Great Volcano of Parmesia

WOOHOO! THIS IS EUICHO.COM’s 100TH POST ANNIVERSARY!

In this rant, Evan finally discovers girls are made different than boys. (Not like that. He still hasn’t found that out yet.)

Scientists (the group of friends I have) have recently discovered that there is a difference between men and women. While dining out at a chain pizza restaurant one of my friends from high school thought it would be cool to waste the cheese….

look at the thanks i get for bein a good friend. uh, um… evANUS!

    • webjones 1:42 am on 2/25/2005 Permalink

I got a Jeep full of girls (my daughter and her friends, about 4 more of them than should have actually fit into the vehicle, all 13 or 14 years old) pretty excited about a big, loud fart the other day. Or perhaps they were just trying to claw their way out. I had the button pressed that locks all the window controls. And my wife can belch with the best of men. But she’s not American (originally), so that might not count. Perhaps it means that foriegn women might still be interesting. If they have not been “westernized”.

    • ev 11:30 am on 2/25/2005 Permalink

that’s an interesting theory, we’ll have to put that to the test. Euicho – Amme might not be completely westernized.

    • Tom 1:07 pm on 2/25/2005 Permalink

Hahahahaha. Ah I’ve had similar experiences with a carfull of cousins.
That is a very good theory! My girlfriend Amme is as open about bodily gasses as my male friends are.

    • Johnny B 1:13 pm on 2/25/2005 Permalink

      bwahahahahaha.

      twaaa….

    • ev 10:13 pm on 2/25/2005 Permalink

then again, hannah always farted on me, so maybe there’s something else involved. i love that we’re discussing bodily function and the female openness off of a goofy ass rant. what if it had to deal with being raised with brothers?

    • euicho 3:24 pm on 2/28/2005 Permalink

      Hmm could be.

    • Jalbey 5:23 pm on 2/28/2005 Permalink

Nope don’t think that has to do with it, Megan and a girl here at work are very open with that stuff and neither was raised with brothers. Has to be something deeper…family environment, friends (ahem), just plain personality? I think we could take 2,000 years to analyze all the data that we would collect and still not crack this mystery; I think it’s time to call in Robert Stack!

    • Doody 5:20 am on 3/1/2005 Permalink

      2 Things:
To Evan, thats still such a good and though provoking rant.
To Tom, the new pics you added are really fantastic.

    • Doody 5:21 am on 3/1/2005 Permalink

      And to Jalbey…
Robert Stack does have all the ansers.

yeah, it doesn’t mean he knows everything. i mean come on he’s a tool. all he has is a creepy voice. it’s like being famous for a hairy back, you didn’t choose for the hairy back, someone just wanted to put it on tv.

I remember the electronic percentile dice I made for my Dungeons and Dragon’s campaign. It had a 555 time or a transisor-capacitor section that made several hundred pulses a second, a pair of decade counter chips to count them, a pair of seven-segment display chips, and two seven segment digital displays.

You’d turn it on, the display would blur, then when you hit the freeze button it would stop on the last two digit number. It was harder to use than a pair of icoscahedal dice but it was much cooler.

I got the circuits from the Radio Shack blue book of electronic projects. The chips were mounted on a strip of perf board and wire wrapped (which is so much easier than the old stick-and-solder method). The board was mounted on a black box with the battery and switches, components out so it looked all high-tech and electronic.

Logo Quest (no, not the language)

Logo design is underway and going nowhere fast, well actually, failure is progress, so thats a false statement. I’ve read some interesting material on the subject at Eris, Whitespace, and DxF.

I re-drew a design I’d come up with a while ago, but it doesn’t convey the attitude I want to get across, its too emo/AFI, so I’ve scrapped it. So far that makes 4. I like the personal dingbat idea Andrei talks about. They have a simple elegance and universality about them. I have 15 tabs open in Firefox as I am writing this (blasted A.D.D.), and every one of them has their own logo/dingbat and corrisponding favicon. This, I must attain.

Yes yes, I went to see I, Robot last night. If you know me, you know I was raised on Science Fiction, its damn near all I read. And any Sci-Fi geek worth his weight in platinum and iridium will tell you Isaac Asimov is one of the best authors, as well as a pioneer in the genre. That being said, heres a little padding before I talk about the actual experience of watching it:
