    NYC Bike Messenger Race

I promise this isn’t turning into a video filter site, I’ve just seen some fun things to share with you all! Heres the last one for a few posts i swear!

Its a Bike Messenger race in NYC, and there are some insane squeezes and close calls. Notice the “skitching” (grabbing onto a moving car so they can pull you along) at about 3:10. And here I used to think motorcyclists had a death wish!

The Evils of Aspartame or Why You Should Eat Tagatose

Do you know what Aspartame is? I knew it was bad for you, but never knew how bad until Amme showed me a documentary called “Sweet Misery”. Sucralose is just as bad as aspartame, and was discovered to be a sweetner when a chemist making pesticide (yes, pesticide!) spilled some on his hand and discovered it tasted sweet. Antifreeze also has this property, and is fatally poisonous.

Though I am no scientist, this video claims Aspartame was pushed into FDA approval through shady deals and payoffs, and can cause dozens of illnesses, among them brain tumors and Multiple Sclerosis. At the VERY LEAST, it is important to at least consider how safe this chemical is, and whether you should let your loved ones intake it, even if its a a precaution.

I suggest supporting Tagatose, a functional sweetener that is safe for all diabetics, is 92% as sweet, and has only 38% of the calories.

    Total General Recall

I think the gist of Gonzales’ testimony is he does not recall.

Geezuz. I couldn’t even get through this whole video. I wonder if he gave them ANY information AT ALL? What a pussy way to plead the 5th amendment. I hope nobody believes him. If he has that poor a recollection he needs to step down and seek medical attention for amnesia.

Knowledge Is Only a Few Clicks Away

The internet is truly amazing. Check this out:

I was on twitter and read the following on the public timeline (a list of all public updates):

“the song ‘so much’ by spill canvas is amazing”

I thought to myself, “I wonder what that song sounds like.”

SF author Jerry Pournelle sort of predicted that in the future we would be connected to the equivalent of the Library of Congress.

He ruefully admits he did NOT predict that people would bitch and moan if Google didn’t cough up the data they wanted in under five seconds.

    Mythbusters Goodies

Damn I’m such a procrastinator. Thank you to those who trudge on with me despite the infrequency with which I post. I blame my tight schedule, and more recently, WoW (yes, I’ve become and addict. No I don’t know what took me so long. I though I was strong enough to resist, alas I am not). Mostly, however, the blame rests squarely on my own shoulders. Anyway, thank you again to my faithful readers. Moving on…

I wished they would go more into the engineering behind their inventions and rigs they build for the show. I know the average person wouldn’t understand 5% percent of it though so I can see why they don’t bother to elabortate.

    • euicho 9:36 pm on 12/8/2006 Permalink

Yeah but still, I agree it would be really cool if they showed more of tyhe engineering background. One the Q&A episode they did show the little black reference book they use for most of the equations and constants they use in their calculations.

    Experience something ORIGINAL: Nintendo Wii

    The Nintendo Wii

Sure, it has a silly name, but if you want to get your whole family involved in hours of fun, want to experience revolutionary gameplay, and don’t want to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for a gaming system, you NEED the Wii.

Nintendo is the only console creator left with originality and passion to push gaming to the next level, and it shows.

This system will outlast the next Xbox 360′s and probably the same for PS3. You’re right its one new innovation for controlers that revolutionizes the gaming world. The eye toy was cool and still is but this is way better. You get to play first person shooters and not have to use the z pad and right trigger instead its old school cops and robbers with you had as the gun. Even thought the graphics and processors of the system are great. The controler sells it. Its like pong only on a 1080i tv with a remote in you hand. Wiiiiiiii ( had to put that pun in lol)

    V for Vendetta Now Playing!

V for Vendetta Graphic Novel Cover

If any of you are semi-long-term readers, you will likely remember my post from almost exactly a year ago about the V for Vendetta movie project. Whether you caught it or not, go ahead and refresh your memory as it’s a short post and has links to introduce new readers to V for Vendetta

The advertising has been pretty extensive, but if you are one to cut yourself off from normal modes of media assailment (I myself don’t listen to the radio and watch little non-downloaded TV, instead getting all of my info from the internet), you may have missed the fact that the theatrical adaptation of the graphic novel V for Vendetta is now playing! I’m going to see it this weekend so I haven’t a review for you right now, but the novel is truely stellar (how could it not be… it’s Alan Moore) , the film was adapted by the Wachowski brothers, and it was directed by James McTeigue who’s assistant directed on Dark City, The Matrix, and Attack of the Clones. As if that wasn’t enough, Natalie Portman is in it. I can see Doody drooling now.

Yes, Patti and I both saw it, and give it two thumbs up. Unusually intellectual for a Hollywood movie, with plenty of action. They did make a slight change of the ending, but nothing I can’t live with.

    • Jalbey 9:53 am on 1/7/2006 Permalink

Time? What is time, but what really is “free” time? Let’s ponder this question shall we.

Dictionary.com gives us the following definition for time. Time is: “A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future.”

Let’s see, “A nonspatial continuum”, hmm that sounds like there is no true way to measure time, and also it will never end. A good thing for those of us that just need more time.

“Irreversible succession”, does that mean I can’t go back and stop myself from calling my boss a miserable furry ball chin prick at the last company picnic? Guess it also means that I won’t be able to stop myself from doing it again (only with a different body part in question) this year.

My point here tonight Ladies and Gentlemen is that time is never really free (direct yourself to the company picnic for example) and we all will always have more time, sleep well and good night.

    • Doody 12:22 am on 1/9/2006 Permalink

I just realized that at the end, where it says Loiter and “This film not yet rated.” It should say Loiter “This film does not exist.”

    V for Vendetta Movie

    V for Vendetta movie poster

Thats right, V for Vendetta is being made into a movie! I’ll read any graphic novel handed to me if Alan Moore had a hand in writing it, seeing as he’s written nearly every one of my favorites: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell, Watchmen (my all-time favorite), and of course, V for Vendetta. So naturally I was floored when I heard this. Moore and David Lloyd did an amazing job with this one, and it has the potential to be a great movie, so I hope I’m not let down (LXG was sooo disappointing!)

The Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver are heading up the film, with Natalie Portman playing Evey (she’s perfect for it), and James Purefoy as V. Filming is underway on location in Berlin and London.

I’m also dying to see the Firefly movie Serenity, and H2G2

For more about the V for Vendetta graphic novel, see here.

PS: My auto-close comments plugin closed this post, but yes, I *did* read Watchmen at Baba’s in Virginia. It believe it was the first (non comic-book sized) graphic novel I ever read.

yeah he’s pretty good, but you know, Frank Miller does some incredible stuff with sin city, and that movie that’s coming out looks AWESOME. catch you later EEEEEE CHO.

    • euicho 2:31 pm on 3/13/2005 Permalink

Oh, man I forgot that was coming out. The movie looks so amazing! Frank Miller’s work is definately good stuff.

You wouldn’t have, perchance, first read WATCHMEN at your grandfather’s house, would you? I got him that copy for xmas, trying to give him a taste of the good stuff. He was already into Superman and Batman (and of course Pogo the Possum).

I agree that all of Alan Moore’s work is solid gold. Have you read his PROMETHEA series?

    A great actor is lost

Last month we lost someone I have had great respect for as an actor. Tony award winning actor Jerry Orbach, known to many a Law & Order addict as Detective Lennie Briscoe, passed away last Tuesday of prostate cancer. After 12 years of L&O with Jerry, it just will not be the same without him.
