SuprNova.org goes down

This morning, like every other morning, I woke up with my head full of things I hadn’t seen/heard/played that I wanted to try to find bittorrents for. Naturally, I went to my favorite BT search site, the most extensive, the ONLY BT search site in my opinion: SuprNova.org.
The *tick-tack**tick-tack**tick-tack* of fingers across the keyboard was interrupted by a pause, a whimper, then sobbing…

Instead of being greeted by the somewhat cluttered yet informative page with a list of the latest torrents, and the all-important Search button, I got this:

Greetings everybody, As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was because it was so hard to keep this site up! But now we are sorry to inform you all, that SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it. We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links. We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything.
Thank you all that helped us, by donating mirrors or something else, by uploading and seeding files, by helping people out on IRC and on forum, by spreading the word about SuprNova.org. It is a sad day for all of us!
Please visit SuprNova.org every once in a while to get the latest news on what is happening and if there is anything new to report on.
As we wish to maintain the nice comunity that we created, we are keppig [sic] forums and irc servers open.

Granted, there are other alternative BT search sites around (a small list of them follows this post), but this one was the grandaddy to me, the one that first got me into torrents, and my singular source of media intake for the last year. I am just short of speechless enough to write this entry.

Yet, I am an optomist, and as such I am sure I will find a new favorite site before long (hell, I swore by hotbot.com literally for years before I found out about google). So to get you other SuprNova.org addicts on the road to recovery, here is a list of some other BitTorrent search engines:

  • torrentreactor.net – this is one of the top sites around
  • bi-torrent.com – fast searches, good site
  • bitoogle.com – uses google, but is down at the time of this entry. Instead, google with “allinurl:torrent” in the search. For example, to find “Mozart”, search “allinurl:torrent mozart”
  • yotoshi.com – seems pretty good
  • downloadanime.org – anime torrents
  • thepiratebay.org – in some foreign language, but still usable
  • bitower.com – mostly chinese but most torrent link names are english

PS: Torrentbits, ISOHunt, Youceff Torrents, and Phoenix Torrents are also all down as the MPAA goes after bittorrent sites.
